First Thing First

First Thing First...

Okay, I am not a stylist or some great fashion guru. However, if you want to think of me as one, that is totally fine. I am, in reality, a stay-at-home mom who does a little work from the computer and absolutely loves to get new clothes and outfits. Unfortunately, the monthly budget does not always allow for that. I refuse to let that get me down and I refuse to become one of those homely mothers who never has time to do their hair, throw on some make-up or look decent for their spouse. I am not saying that I NEVER have those days, I just WILL NOT let that become me.

This blog is for those women and mothers out there just like me or ones that want to step up their fashion game. This is a forum for me to express my thoughts, loves and ideas to keep that closet looking fashionable and up-to-date with out spending a fortune on turning your closet into a Rachel Zoe Ba-na-nas wardrobe.

Say NO to Matchy-Matchy!

One of my biggest pet-peeves in fashion is that people think that your items have to MATCH. Well, they DON'T! THEY DON'T! I don't know how to say it enough, they don't have to match. What is not understood is that there is a difference between having your clothes match and having them GO together.

Here is an example. I was out shopping with someone and she saw a scarf and said that it would go great if we could find a shirt in the color of one of the tiny little flowers printed. I said, "No, I would just wear a white shirt with it." I think she thought I was crazy! Here are some pictures to see the difference.
Her Version
My version

Personally I like my version better, I think it looks more youthful! And isn't that what we are all striving for? And here is a tip: A scarf, of any color, can TOTALLY transform a white shirt! Throw on a cute pair of earnings-they don't have to match the scarf!- and a cute pair of flats or boots and you are set!

Now, this is my own personal opinion, but I think it looks so much better having a bit of a contrast in an outfit! It makes it all so much more interesting. Take a look at these looks. They are the same pants and shirt, but just a little bit of a change makes the outfit more creative and fun!

Before
After
I don't think the black cardigan is a bad look, but notice how much brighter and exciting the outfit is when the colored cardigan is added. It doesn't "MATCH" the black stripes of the shirt, however it "GOES" with it! And throwing in some "mis-matched" jewelery is always interesting!

Now go try this yourself! Look in your closet and see if you can invent something new by adding color to an outfit and mixing things up a bit!
